Andy Newman
Dublin, Dublin 1, Ireland
Summary
👤
SeniorAndy Newman is a software engineer and former senior eCommerce/commercial leader with 11 years of experience who transitioned into web development after an intensive Makers Academy bootcamp. He has shipped full‑stack Node.js and JavaScript solutions at the Financial Times and now drives platform work at Shutterstock, focusing on commercial outcomes and reader/customer experience. Andy combines deep commercial strategy—built over a long career at British Airways leading global web, mobile and distribution initiatives—with hands‑on engineering, turning business problems into measurable product improvements. He is strong with data and analytics, user‑centred design, and agile delivery, and has repeatedly led cross‑functional teams across Europe, Africa and North America. A pragmatic innovator, he leverages negotiation and stakeholder leadership skills from his airline career to accelerate delivery and monetisation in digital products. Outside engineering, he’s deliberately blended commercial vision with code—he quit a senior role to learn to code and has sustained that craft in high‑impact newsroom and media environments.
