Top SchoolAshton Wiersdorf is a PhD student and research assistant at the University of Utah specializing in programming languages, with 13 years of software experience and a strong background in functional and metaprogramming techniques. He has driven production improvements and research-led implementations—most notably improving an interpreter at Spiff through experimental proofs-of-concept that became core to the product. Comfortable bridging academia and industry, he has built metacircular interpreters in Elixir/Erlang, introduced modern tooling at BYU, and continues to seek research-heavy roles in language design and implementation. Based in Salt Lake City, he balances rigorous technical work with life outside the lab as a contrabass-playing, chocolate-loving hiker and devoted father. An Emacs power-user and self-described metaprogramming “sorcerer,” he prefers focused collaborations and asks cold contacts to demonstrate they’ve read his bio.
