Senior🎓
Top SchoolBen Hutchison is an investor and seasoned software engineering leader with over 20 years’ experience, recently focused on data engineering using Scala, Spark, ML, AWS and Google BigQuery. He has moved between hands-on development, architecture and enterprise technology strategy at companies like REA Group, SEEK and Zendesk, and introduced Scala and BigQuery to production teams. A prolific member of the Scala community—founder of the Melbourne Scala meetup, co-organizer of Melbourne Compose and a Scala core committer—he has published open source libraries that helped grow local capability. Ben pairs technical depth with practical product sensibility, having driven consumer-insights platforms that model millions of users and won multiple company-wide awards. In 2018 he began investing seriously in ASX small- and micro-cap companies, bringing the same analytical rigor and risk-calibrated decision-making he applies to engineering. Based in Melbourne, he balances fatherhood and community leadership with a curiosity that spans finance, functional programming and systems design.
