Senior🎓
Top SchoolChalitha Perera is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer based in New Zealand with over a decade of experience specializing in NLP, deep learning, and productionizing AI systems. He has led end-to-end transitions from research and PoCs to scalable, Kubernetes-hosted microservices, standardizing deployments with FastAPI, CI/CD and MLOps practices. His work spans enterprise search, semantic search, conversational NLU, and regulatory-document information extraction, with measurable improvements to annotation workflows and model runtime performance. Comfortable in both startup and corporate contexts, he builds pragmatic solutions that balance research rigor with production constraints. Early contributions to projects like Apache Stanbol and collaborations with European research initiatives hint at a strong research-to-product instinct. He continually seeks to push models into reliable, maintainable services while exploring new advances in large language models and NLP tooling.
