San Francisco Bay Area United States
Summary
👤
SeniorCharles Eckel is a Principal Engineer specializing in real-time communications and interoperability with over 15 years designing large-scale enterprise and service-provider solutions. Based in the Bay Area, he led standards and open-source efforts at Cisco—founding the IETF Hackathon, driving IETF and IMTC working groups, and shepherding reference implementations that make standards deployable. His work spans SIP, video collaboration, and public-safety bridging, including authoring a Bridging Systems spec adopted by DHS and numerous patents protecting signaling and media-processing innovations. A pragmatic architect and early-stage operator (one of the first 10 hires at Vovida), he combines deep C/C++ systems experience with developer advocacy to push running code into standards bodies. Colleagues know him for accelerating vendor interoperability through both technical design and community-building.
