Top SchoolChris Paton is a senior software engineer with 15+ years designing and delivering large-scale backend and data systems at Amazon and AWS, specialising in service-oriented architectures, distributed systems, and infrastructure-as-code on AWS. He combines deep Java and Kotlin expertise with practical experience in TypeScript, JavaScript and Ruby, and a track record of leading greenfield products and complex migrations for public sector and enterprise customers. Equally at home in hands-on implementation and architectural leadership, he has repeatedly formed and grown teams, codified developer standards, and prioritised coaching and promotion of junior engineers. Based in Edinburgh, he champions sustainable working practices—working a four-day week to maximise focused contribution—and brings a pragmatic, customer-facing mindset from years in Professional Services.
