Top SchoolDamon Hart-davis is an engineer, founder and sustainability researcher with 12+ years of hands-on experience building mission-critical systems for merchant and retail banking, alongside a long history of founding and running tech ventures and community services. Currently a Fellow at the Institute for Sustainability and a PhD candidate at University of Surrey focused on decarbonising UK home heating, he blends rigorous computer science training (MSc, The University of Edinburgh) with practical product delivery in low-carbon heating controls. He founded ExNet—one of the UK’s early ISPs—and runs the popular DHD Multimedia Gallery, a pro-bono image service that attracts millions of annual visitors while supporting other public services like NTP. Damon’s work emphasizes reliability and usability: from high-stakes financial systems to consumer-friendly heating controls (OpenTRV) that save carbon, money and improve health. Colleagues describe him as a pragmatic technologist who enjoys “fun technology” and quietly sustains useful public infrastructure while pushing applied research into real-world climate impact.
