Top SchoolDavid De Regt is a versatile engineering leader and hands-on technologist with nine years of formal experience and a long track record of building platforms, teams, and developer enablement systems across startups and large enterprises. He has led platform and foundations organizations at companies like Udemy, Outreach, and Microsoft, driving monolith decompositions, dev tooling, observability, and automated service generation to accelerate feature delivery and reduce operational risk. Comfortable from IC work to running 100+ person engineering orgs, he combines deep architecture instincts (datastores, infra, service frameworks) with people and career systems that improve organizational velocity and quality. He currently applies those skills both as a Member of Technical Staff on OpenAI’s Codex team and as the founder of BoatKit, building embedded maritime automation while living part-time on a boat. Known for wearing many hats, he brings a pragmatic, end-to-end view that links low-level systems engineering with developer experience and long-term operational excellence. An unusual detail: his remote-first life aboard a boat shapes a practical, resilience-minded approach to distributed systems and embedded IoT work.
