Top SchoolDavid Olsen is a PhD scholar and historian of the medieval Islamic Mediterranean whose dissertation examines how the Almohad Empire's trade, religion, and governance drove the Commercial Revolution of the 12th–13th centuries. He pairs deep academic expertise with more than two decades of senior executive experience in global general management, marketing, and sales—having led billion-dollar P&Ls and multinational teams across North America, Latin America, and Europe. His corporate leadership includes senior roles at Johnson Controls (Tyco), DIRECTV, and other firms where he delivered sustained revenue growth, market expansion, and operational turnarounds. Equally at home in the classroom and the boardroom, he has taught undergraduate marketing and international business while publishing and speaking on the relevance of historical thinking to contemporary economic and strategic challenges. Based in Vancouver, Washington, he continues original research into medieval Mediterranean economic systems while translating historical insights into practical lessons for modern business and policy.
