David Turnbull
Senior Software Development Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Summary
👤
SeniorDavid Turnbull is a senior software development engineer based in Sydney with decades of hands-on experience building and operating large-scale systems across Linux, FreeBSD and macOS. He blends deep language fluency in Haskell, C, Ruby and Python with practical expertise in distributed data stacks such as Hadoop, Storm and Kafka, and cloud-native tooling including Docker and EC2. At AWS after a long tenure as Principal Engineer at Arbor Networks, he focuses on resilient services, API management and data-driven infrastructure. His background spans web and mobile product development, search and data-mining, and running the full stack from kernel-level concerns to front-end HTML/CSS/JS. Colleagues rely on him for rare cross-domain depth—system administration, databases (MySQL/Postgres), and streaming architectures—while still shipping user-facing products. He’s the kind of engineer who pairs low-level systems craft with pragmatic product delivery.
