Top SchoolDean Allemang is a Senior Staff Applied Research Scientist with over 30 years of experience designing and deploying semantic solutions, from expert and rule-based systems to modern Semantic Web architectures. He blends deep academic training (MSc in Pure Mathematics, PhD in AI) with hands-on roles as principal solutions architect, ontologist, and founder of Working Ontologist, LLC. Known for formalizing how communities represent knowledge, he has driven adoption of RDF/S, OWL, SKOS and SPARQL across finance and life sciences and helped shape industry standards at organizations like the EDM Council. Dean joined data.world to scale global data sharing and now applies his expertise at ServiceNow, continuing a rare mix of research rigor and practical deployment. He writes regularly about knowledge engineering (a multi-week blogging streak on Medium) and shares practical examples via GitHub gists, highlighting a focus on reproducible, community-oriented tooling. An intriguing throughline in his career is the persistent focus on making tacit community knowledge explicit and actionable at enterprise scale.
