Dean Malan
Software Engineer

Summary
🤩
Rockstar🎓
Top SchoolDean Malan is an experienced software engineer with 11 years building backend systems, payments integrations, and cloud security tooling across startups and consulting engagements. He combines strong Python and full-stack experience with hands-on cloud infrastructure expertise in AWS and GCP, authoring IaC with CDK, CloudFormation and Terraform while running vulnerability and monitoring programs. At Yoyo he led payments integrations and high-load APIs; at FINN he progressed to staff engineer responsible for cloud security, SSO, and migrating low-code tools to serverless Python. A Stellenbosch graduate with a maths background and a habit of ruthless refactoring, he balances pragmatic engineering with attention to maintainability and observability. He’s comfortable interfacing with business stakeholders and has shipped open-source utilities (e.g., a Google Pay decryption package) and infrastructure automations that keep platforms secure and reliable. Colleagues would describe him as open-minded, empathetic, and forward-thinking—someone who elevates teams through clear ownership and thoughtful technical debt reduction.
