Top SchoolDerek Chan is a seasoned software engineering leader with over a decade of experience building mobile-first and cloud-native solutions, now serving as Director of Software Engineering at Alaska Airlines. He grew from hands-on mobile developer to enterprise architect and people leader, launching mobile platforms, native apps, and large-scale web systems in Azure, .NET Core, React and Swift. Derek blends technical depth with servant leadership—he still codes and studies modern tech to better support architecture and team decisions while driving CI/CD and engineering best practices. He has led high-velocity scrum teams, created a Mobile Competency Center and helped transition key flight operations systems from legacy to modern stacks. A long-time coder who wrote his first program in grade school, Derek pairs operational rigor with an outdoors-driven resilience (three Ironman finishes) that informs his steady approach to delivery under pressure.
