Top SchoolDon McCaughey is a founder and software quality expert with 11 years of engineering and leadership experience based in San Francisco, known for building cross-functional teams that reliably ship high-quality software. He has led engineering at startups and large programs alike—from founding boutique firms to managing mobile and infrastructure teams, to driving delivery for a million-user VA mobile app with the U.S. Digital Service. Don combines hands-on technical review of codebases and tooling with data-driven diagnostics (DORA metrics, CI times, bug rates) and qualitative interviews to create tailored action plans that reduce friction between engineering, product, QA and go-to-market teams. He has a track record of doubling team size and release cadence, slashing production bugs, and mentoring engineers while embedding quality practices into development workflows. Notably comfortable onboarding as a pragmatic new team member, he often uncovers the “ground truth” of systems others miss and turns that insight into measurable improvements.
