Top SchoolEdgar Meij is a senior AI engineering leader and researcher with 13+ years of experience building web-scale information retrieval, NLP, knowledge graph and ML platforms, currently heading Bloomberg’s global AI Platforms division and overseeing 70+ engineers and researchers. He previously led Bloomberg’s AI Search and Discovery efforts, applying a 40M+ entity knowledge graph to enable complex natural-language queries across financial data under strict latency constraints. A published scientist with 110+ papers and 2,000+ citations, he serves on program committees for major AI/IR conferences and the editorial board of the Information Retrieval Journal, bringing deep academic rigor to production systems. His work blends fundamental research—especially entity-oriented systems and semantic search—with large-scale engineering, and he still codes in C++, Perl and Python when diving into infrastructure or algorithmic tickets. Based in London with a PhD from the University of Amsterdam, he has a rare combination of academic influence and product impact inside one of the world’s most demanding real-time data platforms.
