Top SchoolElaine Watanabe is a Senior Software Engineer based in São Paulo with 11+ years building web and distributed systems, currently focusing on Elixir and Ruby at The RealReal. She blends strong engineering fundamentals (SOLID, DDD, FP) with hands-on experience across Phoenix, Rails, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and cloud platforms to deliver resilient, test-driven architectures and microservices. Elaine has a research background (Master’s studies at USP) and interests in data-parallelism, energy-aware scheduling and scientific workflows, which inform her pragmatic approach to scalable data-intensive systems. She’s an experienced mentor and technical leader who runs onboarding, 1:1s, pair programming, and hiring interviews, and advocates for accessibility and inclusive tech communities like Rails Girls SP. A frequent conference speaker and content creator, Elaine pairs academic curiosity with production discipline—fun fact: she’s a former Taiko drummer who brings the same rhythm to team collaboration.
