Top SchoolErin Mckean is a Senior Developer Relations Engineer with 14 years of experience bridging language, lexicography, and developer ecosystems from Portland, Oregon. She founded Wordnik, the largest online dictionary by word count, and has grown its API community to over 18,000 developers while pushing the project toward open source and nonprofit status. At Google she now focuses on improving the open-source contributor experience and previously led developer relations programs and Node.js/LoopBack advocacy at IBM. Trained as a linguist (AB/AM, University of Chicago), Erin uniquely combines deep editorial expertise—formerly Editor-in-Chief for American dictionaries and a language columnist—with hands-on API and developer advocacy work. She excels at making complex linguistic data accessible to non-STEM audiences and building tools that help people discover and use rare or overlooked words. A longtime founder and communicator, she blends product instincts with a publisher’s attention to language and community stewardship.
