Top SchoolFederico Quintero is a seasoned senior engineer and co-founder of the GNOME Project with over 15 years of experience building and hardening desktop and GUI platforms for Unix-like systems. He maintained GIMP in its early days, authored the first third-party plug-ins, and later made extensive core changes, then helped design key GNOME libraries, file managers and the GTK+ toolkit. Federico has deep expertise in performance analysis and robustness—evident from long-running contributions to gtk, glib and gnome-shell and careful memory-robust fixes to projects like libpostal. He has held engineering roles at Red Hat, Ximian/Novell/SUSE and served multiple terms on the GNOME Foundation board, combining hands-on coding with community and project stewardship. Based in Veracruz, Mexico, he pairs low-level C systems craftsmanship with a practical eye for accessibility and maintainability, and outside coding he’s an amateur woodworker, cartographer and cyclist.
