Francesco Pretelli
Engineering Manager
Tokyo, Japan
Summary
👤
SeniorFrancesco Pretelli is an engineering manager and founder with 12+ years of hands-on and leadership experience spanning embedded firmware to consumer mobile apps and global product launches. Currently leading cross-functional teams at Mercari, he shipped a greenfield global app in six months and is driving an AI-native engineering transformation that rethinks team structure, workflows, and tooling. He founded Timelabs, where he independently designs, builds, and markets native Apple apps (iOS/iPadOS/macOS/VisionOS), keeping him deeply connected to shipping realities and platform-level decisions. Earlier roles include full rewrites and greenfield builds at Xero and technical leadership across startups and hardware-connected products, giving him a rare blend of low-level systems expertise and modern mobile architecture. Based in Tokyo, he pairs pragmatic engineering standards with a product-first mindset, and still finds time each week for pizza, F1, and indie game sessions.
