Top SchoolGeorge Spake is a Full Stack Software Engineer with 12 years of experience building user-facing applications and backend services, currently contributing at Ookla from Memphis, Tennessee. He blends modern frontend stacks (React, TypeScript, React Query) with robust Python backends (FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy) and has a strong track record improving performance and telemetry for data-heavy systems. Past roles include leading UI modernization at AutoZone and migrating legacy apps to React and GraphQL at Lensrentals, always emphasizing testing, CI/CD, and developer ergonomics. A pragmatic problem-solver, he introduced team-wide tooling and workflow improvements—like git, Vagrant, and macOS adoption—early in his career and has a knack for turning manual processes into automated, documented solutions. Outside engineering he’s an organizer and public speaker active in the tech community, with creative roots as an artist and stained-glass designer that inform a detail-oriented approach to UX and design.
