Top SchoolGeraldine Sarmiento is a designer and cartographic artist with 15 years of experience crafting distinctive map styles, visual systems, and iconography for leading tech and design organizations. As Founder and Principal of Daydream Equipment and a former cartographic designer at Apple, Mapzen, Snap, HERE Technologies and Stamen, she blends rigorous visual design with data-driven spatial storytelling across products and basemaps. Her work spans native OS maps, consumer-facing experiences like Snap Maps, and experimental map tiles and tools (including contributions to Tangram-based styles and the xyz.studio mapping tool). Based in San Francisco but currently inspired by Palawan, she brings a global eye—shaped by travel, publishing, and award-winning watercolor map work—to practical cartography and product design. Notably, she pairs traditional artistic sensibilities (book design roots at Random House) with technical collaboration across engineering teams to create scalable, multi-scale mapping systems.
