Hedley Smith
Founder Product Engineer at Balance Digital
Bristol, England, United Kingdom
Summary
👤
SeniorHedley Smith is a seasoned fractional CTO and founder with 11 years of experience building and scaling product-led engineering teams across FinTech, PropTech and music tech. He combines hands-on full-stack development with strategic leadership—having grown teams to 100 people, overseen platforms handling millions in monthly transactions, and led multiple startups from MVP to funded scale. Hedley has repeatedly pivoted ideas into resilient products (notably evolving an energy autoswitching startup into a B2B2C billing platform that merged into Billing Better/Homebox) while instilling strong engineering practices around observability, CI, and resilience. Comfortable toggling between code, recruitment and board-level strategy, he also runs a digital services studio and serves as fractional CTO for a stealth music tech startup. Colleagues value him for translating messy business problems into pragmatic technical roadmaps and for mentoring teams through high-growth transitions.
