Senior🎓
Top SchoolHeiko Schaefer is a seasoned freelance software engineer with over 20 years of experience building backend systems, databases and secure, free-software environments from his base in Mannheim, Germany. He combines deep Unix/GNU Linux and *BSD system administration skills with extensive Java ecosystem experience and a current focus on Rust and OpenPGP tooling, including smartcard and PKCS#11 HSM integrations and work around openpgp-ca.org. Heiko has designed complex service-oriented architectures using both relational and NoSQL stores (notably CouchDB) and REST-based workflows, and brings practical security expertise to federation and distributed-system challenges. As an independent consultant since 2008, he pairs hands-on implementation with architectural analysis and optimisation, often in privacy-conscious or cryptographic contexts. An observant engineer, he blends long-term infrastructure stewardship with active interest in modern systems languages and hardware-backed keys.
