Ian Ballard is an assistant professor and cognitive neuroscience researcher with 11 years of experience bridging theoretical and empirical approaches to brain function. Trained at Duke (Theoretical Neuroscience, 3.93 GPA) and Stanford (PhD), he develops and applies computational models, reinforcement learning frameworks, and rigorous statistical methods to fMRI and behavioral data. His work blends strong programming skills in Python and Matlab with advanced modeling and experimental design, honed during a Berkeley postdoc and ongoing faculty role at UC Riverside. He is equally fluent in writing and pedagogy, translating complex quantitative methods into accessible neuroscience insights. Notably, his background in individualized theoretical neuroscience gives him a rare ability to connect abstract models to real-world neural measurements.
