Top SchoolIan Wells is a distinguished engineer with 14 years focused on software-defined networking, orchestration, cloud platforms, and Network Function Virtualisation, now based in San Jose. He architected and ran large-scale NFV/OpenStack clouds at Cisco that power production mobile networks—most notably supporting Rakuten’s virtual RAN deployments across Japan. Ian combines deep embedded and real-time control experience from automotive systems with cloud-native design, enabling pragmatic solutions that bridge edge constraints and carrier-scale operations. Known for designing the open-source networking-vpp SDN plugin for OpenStack, he has delivered multi-gigabit production networking used by service providers and OTT operators. At Equinix he continues to apply that cross-domain expertise to platform and orchestration problems at scale. A Cambridge computer science graduate, he brings rare hands-on systems craftsmanship alongside strategic architecture leadership.
