Top SchoolIan Whalen is a Principal Data Scientist leading QuantumBlack Labs R&D in Chicago, with 11 years of experience building and shipping ML solutions across energy, mining, aerospace, medtech, and non-profits. He combines deep research roots—an MS in Computer Science focused on evolutionary computation—with hands-on expertise in Python, C++, and SQL to deliver control optimization, energy-trading systems, and GenAI/LLM applications spanning multimodal, RAG, and agentic settings. Ian has incubated foundational software assets that accelerate client work while advancing fair and explainable AI, predictive modeling, and optimization research. He brings a pragmatic blend of formal mathematics and object-oriented engineering, and retains a long-standing interest in evolutionary algorithms and artificial life that informs his approach to high-dimensional feature selection and neural architecture search.
