Top SchoolJoel Parkinson is an aspiring software engineer and long-time self-starter based in Sheffield, UK, with 11 years of hands-on experience blending freelance development, open-source contributions, and practical customer-facing roles. Currently studying at The Sheffield College while freelancing, he pairs formal IT qualifications (multiple distinctions) with real-world problem solving gained as a freelance software engineer since 2017. Joel’s background includes sustained open-source work and delivering projects directly to clients, demonstrating an ability to take ownership from concept to deployment. Comfortable working on the shop floor at Asda as well as behind the keyboard, he brings a pragmatic, team-oriented mindset and strong leadership instincts. Quick to learn and motivated by inventive teams, he seeks to join forward-thinking companies where he can turn enthusiasm into scalable software. Less obvious: his prolonged combination of study, paid work, and freelancing shows disciplined time management and a proven ability to balance competing responsibilities while shipping results.
