Top SchoolJorge Ortiz is an Assistant Professor and PI of the Sensing and Reasoning Lab at Rutgers with 15 years of experience advancing multimodal sensing and machine learning to support causal inference and decision-making. He blends academic rigor from a PhD and MS at UC Berkeley and a BS from MIT with hands-on industry impact as AI lead for the New York Yankees’ quantitative research and computer vision efforts. His work spans foundational research and product-focused applications, translating sensor-driven models into real-world systems for sports and beyond. As a founder operating in stealth and a lab director, he uniquely navigates between entrepreneurship, team leadership, and deep technical research. An often-overlooked strength is his ability to operationalize complex causal ML ideas into deployable pipelines that inform rapid decision cycles.
