Top SchoolJosh Reese is a Senior Software Engineer with 12 years of experience blending research-grade systems work and production backend engineering across startups and academic labs. He designs and optimizes APIs and data pipelines using Python, Django/DRF, MySQL, Redis, BigQuery and cloud services (GCP/AWS), with a recent focus on migrating high-volume tables to hybrid Redis+BigQuery architectures and pruning query explosions into single-digit queries. His background includes deep distributed-systems and compiler research from Purdue and Edinburgh—work that informed tools for program synthesis, reliable broadcast, and performance-focused query compilation—so he brings a rigorous, systems-first mindset to everyday product problems. Josh also mentors and teaches (Coding Dojo) and has led engineering teams up to VP level, combining hands-on coding with process and tooling improvements like Git worktrees and Sentry-driven performance monitoring. Comfortable across many languages and paradigms (from C and Rust to Javascript and Scala), he mixes pragmatic engineering with curiosity-driven experiments that surface non-obvious optimizations in real-world services.
