Top SchoolKarsten Schmidt is an award-winning computational designer and engineer with 28+ years of transdisciplinary experience blending generative design, data visualization, fabrication and interactive systems across web, cloud and embedded environments. He has led R&D and algorithmic design at Nike and run his studio PostSpectacular, delivering tools and workflows that shaped product pipelines for footwear, apparel and cultural institutions worldwide. A prolific open-source maintainer since the late 1990s (creator of toxiclibs and the thi-ng ecosystem), he combines deep geometry, simulation and algorithmic expertise with practical production know-how. His work has been exhibited at major museums including MoMA and the V&A, and he’s taught computational design at top schools like AA and ETH. Notably, he moves fluidly between high-level strategy and low-level implementation—contributing core changes to niche projects such as an Emacs/org-mode static site generator—bringing both craft-level coding and design thinking to complex problems.
