Kevin Ly is a computational biologist and machine learning researcher with eight years' experience developing scalable AI solutions for biological data, currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Cambridge. He builds and optimises large Transformer models (100M+ parameters) in PyTorch for single-cell and time-resolved perturbation data, delivering 15–30% gains over established methods and speeding training with multi-GPU FlashAttention pipelines. Prior roles at Roche saw him design real-time ETL on GCP and production analytics apps that cut manual lab analysis time, bridging engineering and wet-lab teams. His work spans end-to-end reproducible ML workflows with experiment tracking and has translated into first-author preprints and contributions to high-impact publications. Notably, he combines hands-on genome-editing experiments and large-scale imaging analysis from his ETH Zürich background with deep learning practises, enabling interpretable in silico perturbation studies across thousands of genes.
