Top SchoolKomal Thareja is a senior software engineer and lead architect at RENCI with over two decades of experience building scalable database applications, cloud orchestration (IaaS), and distributed systems for NSF-supported research testbeds like FABRIC. She designs control software and APIs (including contributions to FABLIB and Jupyter examples) that enable advanced networking experiments and reproducible research. Her background includes high-scale telecom platforms—UDR and SDM—where she led architecture, performance optimization, and NFV orchestration work for systems handling hundreds of millions of subscribers. Comfortable across the full development lifecycle, Komal blends Agile delivery with deep hands-on skills in C++, Java, Linux, OpenStack, and database engines. Based in Chapel Hill, she couples research-grade software craftsmanship with real-world telecom rigor, and recently augmented her technical foundation with a master's in computer science from NC State. An understated strength is her ability to translate complex network protocols into robust, testable software used in both production and experimental environments.
