Top SchoolLance Johnson is a Lead Software Engineer with 11 years of experience building backend systems and APIs, currently leading engineering at dscout from Wake Forest, NC. He has deep expertise in Ruby/Rails and Elixir/Phoenix, and a strong track record integrating services across payments, billing, and insurance platforms at companies like Stripe, TaxJar, and Highwing. Lance blends hands-on development with mentoring and team augmentation, having consulted at thoughtbot and introduced testing and delivery best practices earlier in his career. He’s comfortable across the stack—authoring Go APIs, React frontends, and data pipelines—and routinely tackles orchestration problems that improve data flow between partners. His background in theology and philosophy gives him a methodical, systems-oriented approach to complex domain modeling and cross-team collaboration. Colleagues rely on him to translate ambiguous requirements into reliable production services and repeatable engineering patterns.
