Summary
Laurent Toutain is a professor and IPv6 specialist with over two decades of experience researching IP networking, home networking, and the Internet of Things at IMT Atlantique. He co-authored key IPv4/IPv6 transition mechanisms (DSTM and Softwires RFC5571), contributed to ROHC studies, and leads the PRATIC project on IP for home environments. Laurent co-founded Acklio to bring constrained-network innovations to market and has collaborated on implementations and evaluations of IPv4 port-sharing and SAM with industry partners. His work spans routing for home and wireless sensor networks, TCP/header compression, IMS identity management, and IPv6 security architectures, and he holds a patent for application-level address allocation. A founding member of the French G6 IPv6 research group and president of AFNIC’s Scientific Council since 2007, he blends deep protocol design experience with practical deployments and academic leadership. An unexpectedly entrepreneurial researcher, he translates protocol research into real-world prototypes and startups.
