Top SchoolLauri Siltala is a Finnish planetary scientist and Research Scientist at Karman+, leading asteroid characterization efforts for a Colorado-based asteroid mining startup with 11 years of professional experience. He holds a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Helsinki, where his doctoral work concentrated on computing asteroid masses and orbits, and his current role spans research and applied aspects of asteroid science from dynamics to observational characterization. Lauri has a track record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations catalogued in ADS, and brings hands-on observatory experience from the Nordic Optical Telescope. Fluent in both academic rigor and industry-focused problem solving, he blends theoretical modeling with practical data-driven approaches to support resource-assessment and mission planning. One less obvious strength is his ability to translate complex celestial mechanics into actionable insights for commercial asteroid exploration initiatives.
