Summary
Maggie Cawley is an experienced geospatial leader and nonprofit executive who has spent over a decade advancing OpenStreetMap and community-driven mapping in the United States and internationally. As Executive Director of OpenStreetMap US and Founder of Boomerang Geospatial, she combines program leadership with hands-on field data collection, training in open-source GIS, and development of conservation and education initiatives. Appointed Chair of the U.S. National Geospatial Advisory Committee, she bridges grassroots mapping communities, government planning, and conservation partners to turn spatial data into actionable impact. Her work includes building mapping curricula, supporting teacher-led geography integration, and leading cross-cultural conservation projects in Africa—an unusual mix of policy, education, and field practice. Outside of GIS she’s an avid gardener and swimmer who often brings a practitioner’s curiosity and resilience to complex social and environmental challenges.
