Summary
Martin Blažíček is an interdisciplinary curator, researcher, and lecturer specializing in experimental film, video art, and the contemporary moving image, with a PhD focused on Live Cinema. He has directed and presented his own films and performances internationally—from ZKM Karlsruhe to Diapason Gallery New York—and curated programs for festivals and institutions including MFDF Jihlava, Open City Festival London, and Seoul Int. New Media Festival. Academically active since 2010, he has led and shaped audiovisual curricula as head of the Center for Audiovisual Studies at FAMU, guarantor of BA/MA programmes, and guest lecturer at UMPRUM and AVU. His research traces independent and underground film practices in socialist Czechoslovakia and has resulted in publications and the co-authored book Mapping the Moving Image (2023). Between 2019 and 2023 he ran major projects at the Národní filmový archiv, combining archival scholarship with contemporary exhibition practice. Less obvious is his consistent practice-driven approach: he moves fluidly between making, curating and academic work, using live cinema performances to test research insights in public contexts.
