Top SchoolMati Fornes is a Senior Staff Software Engineer based in Amsterdam with over a decade of experience designing and shipping scalable distributed systems and customer-facing experiences. He combines deep front-end expertise in React, TypeScript and GraphQL with back-end work in Node.js and Ruby/Rails, and has driven cross-team architecture and mentoring at companies like Shopify, LEGO and Decathlon Digital. Comfortable as both an IC and tech lead, he focuses on product-driven engineering—recently helping build Decathlon’s best-in-class checkout—and has a track record of leading handoffs so in-house teams can sustainably maintain projects. An active open-source contributor, he expanded the nostalgic-css NES.css icon set with animated coins, showing attention to detail and a playful UI sensibility. Collected experiences across e-commerce, marketplaces and developer tooling give him a pragmatic systems perspective and a knack for turning complex requirements into maintainable products.
