Senior🎓
Top SchoolOvidiu Șerban is a research-focused software engineer with over a decade of experience applying real-time NLP, unsupervised ML and large-scale data extraction to messy, unstructured sources. Currently a Research Fellow at Imperial College London and the Data Science Institute, he builds performant pipelines for event detection and large-scale visualisation while bridging HCI, user modelling and affective computing. His background spans academia and industry—from postdoctoral work at Cambridge creating structured procurement datasets to earlier high-frequency Java engineering at TORA—giving him rare fluency across systems, algorithms and human-centred design. He also co-founded a stealth startup and moderates robotics discussions, reflecting an entrepreneurial and community-minded streak beyond his publications. Notably, his work emphasizes practical real-time performance on noisy web and social data, turning ambiguous inputs into structured, actionable insights.
