Senior🎓
Top SchoolPascal Houliston is a Senior Backend Engineer with 15+ years building high-scale, production systems across startups and larger platforms, currently focused on Go and Kubernetes. He has deep experience designing distributed, event-driven architectures and has shipped systems that handled hundreds of millions of daily requests and tens of millions of users. Notable projects include migrating billions of chat messages to Cassandra without downtime, extracting a Rails monolith into gRPC/Kafka microservices for a ride-hailing app, and pioneering a live-streaming pipeline that synchronizes hidden GoPro telemetry with HLS video. Comfortable across cloud infrastructure (AWS/CDK/CloudFormation), databases (Postgres, ElasticSearch, Redis, Cassandra) and CI/CD, he blends hands-on coding with architectural ownership. Based in Cape Town, Pascal pairs pragmatic product thinking with a curiosity for unusual technical challenges—often surfacing innovative solutions at the intersection of streaming, telemetry and event systems.
