Senior🎓
Top SchoolPatrick Raanes is an applied mathematics and statistics researcher with 12 years of experience specializing in data assimilation and inverse problems. Based in Bergen, Norway, he has held research roles at NORCE and NERSC and completed postdoctoral and visiting scientist collaborations across Europe and the U.S., including SAMSI and Ecole des Ponts. His Oxford PhD (recognized as excellent) and MSc (Distinction) underpin a strong analytical foundation applied to real-world problems like reservoir history matching and ensemble-based smoothing implementations. Patrick combines academic rigor with practical software experience—his work has interfaced with industry tools such as the ERT reservoir toolkit and ECLIPSE simulator. He is comfortable bridging theory and code, making methodological advances that are directly deployable in operational settings. Colleagues value him for producing reproducible, mathematically grounded solutions that scale from numerical PDEs to large-scale data assimilation systems.
