Summary

Senior🎓
Top SchoolPeter Brett is a software architect with 19 years’ experience turning electronics and academic curiosity into production-grade EDA and developer tools. After a PhD in satellite remote sensing and research roles at Sharp, he became the main maintainer of the gEDA open-source EDA system and later brought that domain expertise to Cadence, where he created algorithms now central to analogue and mixed-signal IC design. He combines deep language- and toolchain-level skills in Lisp and C++ with product-wide ownership of Unicode and text processing across large engineering codebases. His background spans full-stack contributions to projects like LiveCode and low-level compiler and IDE work, giving him rare breadth from user-facing features to core infrastructure. Colleagues describe him as technically curious and quietly influential, preferring to solve hard engineering problems that unlock designer productivity. Based in Peebles, Scotland, he balances rigorous research instincts with pragmatic delivery in commercial EDA products.
