Top SchoolPhilipp Gorczak is a Research and Development Specialist with 13 years of experience building embodied systems that bring situated intelligence to real-world machines, currently focused on making ships smarter at catskill GmbH. His background spans maritime search and rescue, rescue robotics, and industrial automation, where he implemented force-sensitive motor skills and composed them into higher-level programs for complex assembly. He has deep expertise in reliable communication and monitoring for drones and robots, human-robot interfaces, and networked systems that keep operations robust under messy real-world conditions. Philipp favors distributed systems and functional programming to manage complexity, a practice that shows up in both research prototypes and deployed operational tooling. Based in Hamburg, he combines academic rigor from TU Dortmund with hands-on lab and field experience at Fraunhofer and DGzRS, enabling rapid iteration from prototype to mission-capable systems. An under-the-radar strength is his focus on composability—designing robot behaviors and communication stacks so pieces can be reused and recombined across domains.
