Top SchoolPishen Tsai is a Staff Engineer with 14 years of experience specializing in Scala-powered big data and cloud-native backends, currently working at Trend Micro in New Taipei. He has led architecture and implementation of data platforms and cloud workflows—rewriting Cromwell backends for multi-cloud Spark-on-Kubernetes deployments and building Scio-driven pipelines and geodata vector-tiling at scale. Pishen combines strong engineering craftsmanship (sbt plugins, CI/CD with GitHub Actions, type-safe datastore wrappers) with practical product impact, such as a drama recommender that increased weekly watch time by 1.5 hours. He has a track record of introducing Scala/Spark across teams, creating developer tooling (spark-deployer, lsh4s/annoy4s) and mentoring engineers to shorten ramp-up time. Comfortable across backend APIs, streaming jobs and frontend glue like Scala.js, he brings both systems-thinking and hands-on coding to complex data problems. Colleagues know him by a playful “Scala virus carrier” moniker that hints at his contagious enthusiasm for the Scala ecosystem.
