Richard Carder is a data strategy and insights leader with 11 years of experience translating complex data into actionable learning and equitable grantmaking across philanthropy and the public sector. Currently Director of Data Strategy & Insights at the RLD Foundation, he builds measurement systems, grantee data capacity, and public-facing tools to embed continuous learning into program strategy and ecosystem infrastructure. Previously at Wellspring he combined R-based ETL, Azure-backed pipelines, interactive dashboards, and even LLM classifiers to automate reporting, tag grant narratives, and surface portfolio-level insights. Trained as a water resources engineer (M.Eng., Univ. of Florida) and later in information systems (Johns Hopkins), he brings a hybrid technical background—ranging from GIS and oil-spill mapping to API integrations and AI—to drive pragmatic, community-grounded data practices. Outside work he leads DataKind’s DC chapter, pairing pro-bono data science to real-world civic and disaster-response problems.
