Senior🎓
Top SchoolRobert Zhang is a seasoned Site Reliability Engineer with 26 years of experience, best known as the founding and longest-tenured member of Google's F1 SRE team where he helped migrate AdWords from MySQL and transform F1 into a general-purpose, highly reliable query service. He combines deep systems and low-level expertise—from MIPS/Loongson CPU ports and embedded work on the mpc5200 repo to maintaining Gentoo overlays and localization efforts—with large-scale production reliability engineering. His career spans roles at Google, Novell, Yahoo and open-source leadership in Gentoo and Linux/MIPS, reflecting a rare blend of production on-call ownership and upstream contribution. Based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, he brings pragmatic tooling and automation skills that make distributed databases more usable and resilient, and he’s quietly influential in niche communities like Loongson and Gentoo where his localization and porting work has had outsized impact.
