Top SchoolRoss Beck-macneil is a Senior Data Scientist in Ottawa with nine years of experience blending computer science and economics to extract actionable insights from large financial and price datasets. He led implementation of machine learning— including a TensorFlow neural network—to modernize Canada's Consumer Price Index and managed weekly 5+ GB scanner data pipelines and large-scale web scraping. Ross is skilled in Python, SQL, SAS, VBA and productionizing models, and has applied those tools across federal institutions such as Statistics Canada and the Treasury Board Secretariat. His dual masters—from UBC in Economics and Penn in Computer and Information Technology—give him a rare combination of econometric rigor and engineering pragmatism. Colleagues rely on him for turning messy transactional feeds into auditable, policy-ready indexes and reports. Beyond modeling, he focuses on robust data engineering and reproducibility when integrating novel data sources into official statistics.
