Senior🎓
Top SchoolSam Lumley is a data scientist with eight years' experience building open, policy-relevant datasets and tools for urban mobility and infrastructure across Canadian federal and academic projects. At Statistics Canada he leads the Urban Data Lab’s work to create national open mobility databases for cycling, pedestrian and public transit infrastructure, and previously helped release national datasets on healthcare, businesses and infrastructure. His background blends hands-on web and data engineering with applied ML and policy research from roles at McGill—where he led teams using machine learning to study public reaction to extreme weather and analyzed ethics of government AI—and an MSc in Geography. Comfortable bridging research, government data policy and production data products, he brings a user-focused, civic-data lens to open-data initiatives and civic tech partnerships.
