Summary
🤩
RockstarSam Thompson is a Staff Software Engineer in Portland, OR with roughly 15–18 years of experience building reliable web applications, specializing in backend architecture with Python and Django. He designs data-heavy systems—OLAP pipelines, denormalizing extraction APIs, and ETL flows—that have processed terabytes annually and scaled large datasets by orders of magnitude. A longtime advocate of automated testing, CI, and code review practices, he’s helped establish microservice standards and dramatically increased test coverage across teams. Sam contributes to notable open-source projects like django-tastypie, focusing on API robustness and cross-version compatibility, and pairs production engineering with applied machine learning and data wrangling using Pandas and scikit-learn. He’s equally comfortable architecting distributed systems with Celery/RabbitMQ and mentoring engineers to raise delivery and quality across organizations.
