Top SchoolSean O'toole is a seasoned Software Development Engineer IV with 11 years of experience leading cloud-native transformations and delivery at Capital One, where he guides multiple agile squads and shapes platform-wide patterns for serverless deployments. He combines deep backend expertise in Java and Kotlin with practical frontend and infrastructure know-how, having migrated on-premise systems to microservices and pioneered serverless Lambda/S3 applications. A recognized communicator and award-winning presenter, Sean runs software craftsmanship sessions, mentors engineers across teams, and co-owns documentation initiatives that improve discoverability and developer onboarding. He also builds hands-on side projects—a planning poker app, team-building algorithm game, and an agile teaching site—showing a persistent focus on learning-by-doing and teaching practical TDD/BDD techniques. Unusually for an engineer, his background in counseling psychology informs his collaborative leadership and emphasis on knowledge-sharing cultures.
